I'm increasingly keen on attending really specific writing workshops. Was just at "Harnessing the Power of Lists in Short Story Writing" by @izzyxen and @ClarionWest and got heaps out of it - compared with more general "How to tell good stories" or "Make memorable characters"

Rest of the workshop was about using lists as the structure for a short story - FAQ, meeting minutes, inventory, etc. They're not vignettes though, they build to a story arc. There's also a great (if very trad fantasy) full-length book called Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City
