“You can’t use those medicines. They’re unproven.”

Texas doctors: “You can’t tell us what to do.”
It seemed strange at first, when reading the treatment news. Another treatment developed by a Texas doctor? Why is it always Texas?
In retrospect, of course all the cures would come from #Texas and #Florida. They already don’t trust the experts. So they didn’t waste any time faffing about. They weren’t waiting around for direction from above. #Varon flew straight to #Singapore and trained immediately.
He must have known nobody was coming to save him. Otherwise, why would he do that? That decision paid off. He had one of the lowest ICU mortality rates of any hospital in the world.
Democratic doctors on the other hand, do trust the system. They get their information from the guidelines, from whatever is handed down from above. By the time they realized nobody was coming to help, their hospitals were flooded, and it was too late to do their own research.
It’s the same reason patients didn’t trust. We know the system doesn’t work. The system has nearly killed us before and we had no false hope it would be different this time. Not to mention the official rationing guidelines said: “given a choice, kill the sick person.”
Right or wrong, those were the guidelines. So, saving ourselves was the only option. In a crisis, this turned out to be a strange advantage.

Most at risk, but also the most prepared.
So it was the right wing + anybody previously messed over by the system on one side and the left wing + anybody still healthy/trusting on the other.

There are probably other situations where naturally trusting the experts is an advantage.

This, was not one of them.
Also, thank god for those badass Texas doctors.
