This is honestly sad to me and shows a profound lack of interest in or respect for what anarchists from Cuba have had to say about the state and its counter-revolution. https://twitter.com/ka1sertheprole/status/1303318944900616192
There are praise worthy elements of Cuban society particularly its agricultural system rooted in cooperatives (which notably only emerged only after the fall of the USSR) and social programs around health and education. These do not make a society socialist and Cuba is capitalist
But very fucking early on anarchists were targeted by the new “revolutionary government” despite or because of being the majority of the socialist movement there in the lead up to the revolution. Some were killed, some were imprisoned, and many more were exiled.
Dolgoff is not Cuban but his chapter on why the anarchists broke with Castro is instructive on the emergence of this repression: https://archive.iww.org/history/library/Dolgoff/cuba/10/
“Cuba and the Demonization of Anarchists: A Lesson for Our Times” by Rafael Uzcategui addresses those more broadly https://blackrosefed.org/cuba-demonization-of-anarchists/
A statement from two anarchists and LGBT organizers who were imperiousness for organizing an independent pride parade: https://libcom.org/news/solidarity-detained-cuban-anarchist-lgbt-activists-12052019
“A box of ashes, the state and the next Cuban revolution” by Cuban anarchist Marcelo Salinas written in the wake of Castro’s death reflecting on the states (counter)revolutionary role in Cuba https://libcom.org/library/box-ashes-state-next-cuban-revolution
Canek Sanchez Guevara (Che’s grandson) was an anarchist until his death. He was exiled because of his anarchist beliefs and was active in the Cuban Libertarian Movement in Exile for many years. https://libcom.org/history/che%E2%80%99s-grandson-anarchist
Worth just linking to the anarchist Cuban Liberation Movement in exile page which is archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20100303132648/http://www.mlc.acultura.org.ve/
