I spent this morning at Michael Garron’s assessment centre getting tested for the first time. No symptoms for me, but my 7-year-old woke up with lethargy and nausea and so off we went to MGH. Thread. https://twitter.com/maureentaylor31/status/1303480710699905025
First, MGH took saliva samples (spit in a cup) and brain-tickler nasal swabs. It was encouraging to see the system collecting saliva for validation. I hope that collection method will be more widely available soon.
Second, the deep nasal swabs are not that bad, people. A few seconds of discomfort. Way easier than advertised.
Finally, I found being at the testing centre weirdly reassuring. All around me I kept hearing people explain their situations to the staff. Most had the mildest of symptoms, but they were trying to be cautious, trying to do the right thing. The staff were patient and helpful.
As I often notice when I’m out in the real world these days, most people are muddling through this god-awful pandemic with kindness and decency. I always find myself surprised — I expect everyone to start screaming at each like real life is Twitter. This platform is ruining me.
