today is the third year since my uncle passed away

he was more than extended family, he was as present in every aspect of our lives as my parents

he didn't have a spouse or children of his own, I think having nephews and a niece was enough for him
he cared for us, and he always had something goofy, if problematic, to say that would leave us in stitches

he helped us when we needed it, and when we were kids he would provide for christmas so our parents didn't have anything
but he also was wrapped up in a culture where men didn't talk about their issues, or even pretended they didn't exist

his mental health slipped in the last year of his life, leading up to him taking his own

please care for yourselves and know that you have people that love you
