Let’s talk painting skin for a minute.

Please note.
This is my method.
Not THE method.
Just how I do it.
Cool? Cool.

It’s totally ok if you have your own.

That said, I’m using Monument paint.

Shadow Flesh
Tan Flesh
Pale Pink

I typically use a triad for skin
(3 paints)
Alright so I’m going to base the whole bit in Shadow Flesh.

Working from the bottom up.

Use thin layers, and trying to keep all of my strokes going in the same direction for this one.
(This matters later)

Hazzah.

Easy one.
Let’s add some volume.

Again.
Thin layers are your friend here.

Using Tan Flesh, focusing broadly on the high points. Forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, eyelid. So on.

Doesn’t have to be perfect. Just sketching in the light.

Speaking of light, pick a light source.

Next, we blend!
Blending!!

This part takes time. Go slow with it. No one is timing you. If they are, fuck em. Go slow.

I’m mixing the tan and shadow to blend those edges. Making it smoother.

Wet brush, and mixing paint creating a glaze. (Glaze = kinda thicker wash)
You got this. You’re doing great!

Now I’m going BACK in with the tan flesh to bring back up the high points. Focusing on brows, nose, cheeks, and such.

Ahem. Are you remembering your thin layers? Good.

Thin the paint, “glaze” if you will.

Go slow. Let it dry.
This part always freaks me out, and where I always screw up.

High highlight.

Using the pale pink, thin of course, poking at the tip of the nose, forehead, and cheeks.

Sketching the high points.

Next we blend again. Just as before but with the brighter colors.
Blend blend blend... blen.. bleh.

Tedious? Absolutely.
Worth it? Yep.

Mixing pale pink and tan flesh plus thinning.

Moving the brush from the dark points to the light. Remember when I said direction will matter? Here it is.

Go sloooow.
Thin layers.
Check your work.
