This is a pattern across the family law system. Children disclose fear of an abusive parent, & their fears get minimised, explained away and dismissed in the court. I get emails about cases like this *all the time*. This is a federal system: the buck stops with the Morrison govt. https://twitter.com/lanesainty/status/1303281318373912576
If you are struggling to comprehend how and why the family court responded so badly to this case, I wrote about the systemic failures that fail children again and again in @THEMONTHLY in 2015: https://www.themonthly.com.au/issue/2015/november/1446296400/jess-hill/suffer-children#mtr
And if you're wondering how the family law system got this bad, I wrote about that here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/sep/19/i-believed-the-family-court-system-was-bias-against-fathers-then-i-found-the-rot-at-the-core-of-it
Honestly, I am so tired of trying to get decision-makers to care about what happens to kids in family court. I’ve been on this story for five years. I can’t imagine what it’s like for people like @LynAnge68 and others who have been on this for *decades*. What will it take?
We need more journalists working on this story. It’s huge, complex and labor-intensive, but that’s true of most important stories. If we can’t make the family court system protect children, we should stop expecting victims to leave.
