I have the utmost respect for both  @mboyle1959 and  @GregLehman. They are both experienced in their respective fields and are smarter than I will ever be. This debate reminds me of a situation that my dad faces. A thread...
/4... My dad has played basketball his entire life. He's 65 yo, now. Someone who watches him run up and down the court might say that he shouldn't be playing b/c of the way he looks moving around on the court. I mean, nearly every joint in his body is jacked up in some way...
/4... He's a warrior. He didn't always move like that, but he does now. He has played 5 days/week for the majority of his life; he LOVES the game. If you told him to play 3 days instead of 5 days/week, he'd laugh in your face and say no way (I know, I've tried)...
/4...Despite whether he should or should not be playing from a perceived injury risk reduction standpoint, basketball keeps him physically fit, which is a well-known associate of ⬆️ lifespan. More than that, playing basketball is fun for him and makes him happy...
/4...I'm not picking a side in this debate. When it comes to my dad, I don't give a crap what he looks like playing ball; being happy is more important to him than risking further injury. I'm just happy that he's happy and continues to exercise in a way that he enjoys.
