Curious to hear what policies separate Scott Stringer from the field. How does he exist on a spectrum to the left of even Bill de Blasio? His left endorsers say he does, but the record, over decades, is mostly conventional. Most are backing him because he backed them first
Endorsing IDC challengers in the 2018 cycle never impressed me much because activists had been screaming about this for a year and the whole left movement went with it. Better to ask where Democrats were in 2016 and before, when the IDC flourished and politicians were MIA.
Reporters are going to be tying themselves in knots over who has the "left" lane in the Democratic primary for mayor but every candidate, thus far, is advancing a vague mix of center-left priorities that aren't a large departure from the much maligned Bill de Blasio
One tiring thing I don't want is for mayoral candidates to find some micro-issue de Blasio failed on (he was mean to THAT business owner!) and then vow to do it better. I don't really care if the next mayor is nicer to the press. I want to know what their big vision for NYC is.
