Look professional, sound human.

The more professional you sound, the less professional you look.

Real movers and shakers talk like humans. They don’t like to be talked to so stiffly.

Chill with the “kind regards” “colleague” language and use more “what’s up” “how’s it goin?”
Get a decision maker to owe you one.

Easiest way to do this is to snag an interview and pump out content/ads around it.

Bonus points if it hits mainstream pages or gets crazy views.

Cc @danielkempe for the distribution hookup
Networking beats hard work every time.

Cut your learning curve by years by talking to the top minds in the industry as soon as possible.

Cc to these folks for giving me a crash course these past few years:

Ask Twitter and you shall receive

The power of Twitter comes those who ask. Asking more = more opportunities for answers.

Pretty simple, really
Know nothing, say thank you

“I don’t know” “thank you” “I need help” are the best phrases to getting things you need.

Nobody wants to help you if you already know.

When you do get help, show how grateful you are
Be a cheerleader for others

I often get “you market more for us then our marketing team” and that’s the way I like it.

True friends are excited to talk about their friends.

Why treat business relationships any different?
Rising tides raise all boats (pt1)

If your industry is new or growing, look at your competition like another team in the league.

When you don’t have a team to play against, you’ll end up losing because the fans will leave.

When the league grows, everyone wins.
Rising tides raise all boats (pt 2)

If the league doesn’t exist, create your own.

This can set you up as an industry leader down the line.
Time value of money

What’s your time worth? $100/hour? $1000/hour?

Put a $ to it and delegate the tasks that go over that amount.
30 minute rule

If you’re stuck on a task for more than 30 minutes, move on. It’s better to be productive and circle back then to get frustrated for hours on something.

Coming back with a clear mind will solve most issues
Ask for forgiveness not for permission

Breaking rules can sometimes get you in the door to where you need to be. If done right you can get into newsletters, followers, fans, clients, and even partnerships.

Worst case scenario you get cease and desist letters 😂
If I think of more I’ll post more in thread but in the meantime, what’s your favorite? Any to add?
Cocktail facts (p1)

When raising or pitching your product, drop a cocktail fact in to make yourself memorable so people can tell others about you in 1 or 2 lines.

Example: “70% of taste comes from smell”
Cocktail facts (p 2)

The way you position your product on day 1 affects all your future marketing and the overall success or failure of it.
Intentionally create triggers

Fill in the blanks:

When someone has X problem they need (Y) to solve it.

Example:

When someone needs to talk to their team but I can’t get all on Zoom because of scheduling conflicts, they need @yac to be able to send voice messages instead.
