Scottish nationalism isn’t half a mean spirited creed when you sit back and consider it:

The nationalist wants to separate; to be less. The nationalist wants to stop pooling and sharing. The nationalist wants to cease being a countryman of 60M people who presently are such.

The nationalist doesn't want a close partnership with former countrymen after separation. The separation is everything; thoughts of the future relationship are irrelevant to the nationalist.

The nationalist cares not if you would be hurt or injured physically, mentally or financially in the course of his achieving his goal. The nationalist would sacrifice your children’s education or the health of your loved ones in pursuing his goal.

The nationalist wants to cease giving support and kinship to people in England who are worse off than them; they resent them. The nationalist doesn’t want to receive support and kinship from people in England who are better off than them; they resent them.

The nationalist won’t support Scots business if they are not committed to separation. The nationalist won’t support Scots businesses if they stock products that have the UK’s flag on their produce.

The nationalist dislikes Scots neighbours and workmates who don’t support separation. The nationalist hates Scots who vote for parties other than theirs. The nationalist sees themselves as superior.

The nationalist will broker little if any criticism of thieves, sex pests, groomers, liars or bullies if the transgressor is another nationalist. Yet the nationalist would condemn to eternal damnation such transgressor if they were English, Tory or a non-nationalist Scot.

The nationalist dismisses the intellectual output of talented Scots who are contented in their UK citizenship.
The nationalist dismisses the job creation and wealth generation of Scots business people who are contented in their UK citizenship.

The nationalist denies facts that do not suit their narrative. The nationalist invents grievance and "alternative facts" and parades the same as truths. The nationalist engages in the spreading of fake news.

The nationalist sees importance in the history of 300 years ago but places no importance on shared endeavours of recent history. The nationalist denies any historical wrongdoing of Scots in the days of Empire yet decries and judges the English as evil transgressors.

This is not a tale of civic minded, joyous people. This is a tale of small people. Selfish people. Unkind people. Sanctimonious people. These are the people who already have, and seek ever greater control over us though.

We have a chance to row back from where we are. Next year, we can reject the SNP and their mean spirited vision of our future. Focus on policy; education, economy, healthcare and turn away from identity politics and nationalism.
