Brian Cashman, who is in Buffalo with the Yankees, addressed the team this afternoon, per Aaron Boone. He called Cashman’s message “really good.” The Yankees have lost 14 of their last 19 games.
By the way, Boone said he called umpire Brennan Miller last year (the day after the "savages in the box” rant) to apologize. Miller is behind the plate tonight, his first time there in a Yankees game since the incident.
Cashman said he reminded the team that the front office believes in them, that they were on the roster for a reason & that no outside help was coming. “If you’re out at sea, the Coast Guard isn’t coming to save us. … We have to get back on track yesterday."
Cashman acknowledged that him addressing the team might not change anything, but it was partly therapeutic for him so that he could, as the leader of the organization, do something and remind the team of certain things.
Cashman said he doesn’t regret not making a deal at the Aug. 31 trade deadline. He said he wanted to improve the team, but he also said that the price for the player(s) the Yankees wanted was too high & he felt the subtractions to make those trades would’ve made the team worse.
