Doing a bit of Arduino / Teensyduino hacking for the first time in ages. I’m building a physical mute toggle for video calls, so so don’t have to keep pressing Command + D. Small aluminium enclosure + satisfying push button arriving soon.
The (incredibly basic and not especially well structured) Arduino code was very quick to get working: https://gist.github.com/rooreynolds/10f16deb16ef05a4ade1b9cd7351ba02
On the physical side, I’m thinking smallish but ideally with a bit of weight so it doesn’t slide around. Whackability is more important than being tiny. Maybe a couple of stomp switches next to each other, one to toggle audio and one to toggle video.
Drilled out some holes in the lid and body, and fitted four square panel push switches I had lying around. What was the lid is now the top of the box.
A pretty little multi-function USB keyboard. This one toggles mute and camera settings in Google Meet. The enclosure, with its clear top, is crying out for LEDs too
Very satisfying. This one is sturdy enough to live on the floor as a foot switch too.
