A lot of the clients I work with are often young adults & NEET. And when delving deeper into their past & how they've got to where they are this always comes up...

parents (1 or 2) were there physically but emotionally absent...
And when reflecting upon my sessions and then in supervision. It becomes apparent that majority of the young people I work with are often times children in adult bodies. Still waiting for their needs to be met.
Whether that is financially or through relationships. It's often been the case where once clients do successfully gain employment, education or training they sort of latch on and see myself and colleagues as "friends" rather than Career Professionals. Obviously, we're not.
We can only do so much that's within our remit but in reflection it's always fascinating understanding why people behave & act the way they do.

What triggers them & what needs they need fulfilling & the ways/means those particular needs - absent or unfulfilled are met. 🤔
The more I get to work with a spectrum of people (NEET to Graduates) the more it is apparent that no matter what goes on in world, without congruence you cannot provide the adequate levels of help & support an individual requires.

To truly understand the human psyche & make a genuine difference it has to come from the heart.
There has to be genuine interest, compassion and to lead with intuition too.

There are cases where it's easy to be emotionally reactive especially when situations are frustrating; we're human after all. But truly listening to understand & acknowledge & not just reply, is vital
