The Oviedo home shirt is blue with patterns on it that you only notice when you see it up close.
In Oviedo they are very proud of their heritage and culture, so it's no surprise that the shirts were unveiled under the slogan #ElCaminoComienzaAquí

#ElCaminoComienzaAquí translates to "The road starts here" referring to Camino de Santiago and that the oldest route to Santiago de Compostela, first taken in the 9th century begins in Oviedo
That's also why the Oviedo city print on the shirt have the words "Origen del camino"

For those unfamiliar with it, the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.
Another nice detail from the unveiling of the Oviedo home shirt is the including of a picture of Peter Dubovský.
It now being 20 years since the Oviedo player tragically died at the age of 28, while on vacation in Thailand, falling to his death while taking photos of a waterfall

Peter Dubovský is considered one of the best players ever to have worn the Real Oviedo shirt. Playing for the club from 1995 until his death in 2000.
Losing Dubovský was a terrible tragedy and the first season without him saw Real Oviedo relegated from LaLiga.

Shirt: AWAY
The away shirt is yellow and black and there is a reason for that, actually several.
First the shirt design is inspired by the black and yellow colors of the sacaveras, a subspecies of salamander (a lizard like animal), that can be found in Oviedo and Asturias.

The black and yellow in the away shirt also comes from Real Oviedo's origins. As one of their founding clubs Stadium Ovetense, used to wear these colors before they merged with Real Club Deportivo Oviedo in 1926 to create Real Oviedo

Before we move on... is it just me or does Borja Sánchez have a model career in front of him?
Or is it just a case of @fotohugoalvarez being brilliant as always with his camera.

It's not the first time that Real Oviedo show tribute to their origins.
During the last two years, on the day of the clubs founding, they've released two special edition shirts as tribute to their two founding clubs.

For Real Oviedo's 93rd anniversary they unveiled this blue and white shirt as tribute to Club Deportivo Oviedo, even wearing the original emblem on it.
It was used in one match and sold in the club store as a limited edition

And for the 94th anniversary they paid tribute to Real Stadium Club Ovetense, who more than yellow and black also played in yellow and blue. Again the shirt was used in a match and sold as a limited edition in the club shop.
Last season review:
Segunda: 15th 53p
It was not the best of season's for Real Oviedo, who always are under pressure to fight for LaLiga promotion but instead ended up in the relegation battle, going through three coaches over the season.
Segunda: 15th 53p

However Oviedo did end the season on a very good note. New coach Cuco Ziganda lead them to a rather impress end with seven victories, three draws and only four defeats in 14 matches.
Before his arrival Oviedo had only won 1 in 10.

Most significant loss:
Saúl Berjón
The Oviedo captain is leaving as he and the club failed to reach an agreement for a renewal
After getting an offer from the club that he couldn't accept Saúl waited 12 days without hearing anything before he informed that he wouldn't continue

Saúl came up through the Oviedo youth ranks but didn't play first team football for the club until 2017 (age 31), and after having been around in several different clubs mainly in Segunda.
But he is a Oviedo boy and says he will continue to forever be yet another Oviedista.

New captain.
With Saúl leaving, Real Oviedo will have a new captain this season. Sergio Tejera has worn the armband during pre-season and is likely the one to be captain.
Mossa and Christian would then likely be the reserve captains.

Players like Yoel Bárcenas, Alfredo Ortuño, Andriy Lunin and Luismi have also finished their loan terms and returned to their clubs.
Lunin being a especially big loss as the goalkeeper last season saved them on more than one occasion. While Ortuño was the teams top scorer.

Most significant new signing:
Edgar Gonzalez
This has the potential to be a really good signing for Real Oviedo. Edgar is coming on loan from Real Betis. Even though he is a center back he's been playing a lot as a defensive midfielder at Betis.

Key players:
Borja Sánchez
There is no doubt that Borja is the most exciting player at Oviedo right now.
Born in Oviedo he only played a short time in the youth teams before he went to Real Madrid at 15 where he reached the b-team, went on some loans and returned to Oviedo B

Borja made his first team debut in October 2018 but it was first last season he was permanently moved up, and he sure made an impression
This 24-year-old got skills! And he'll without a doubt be the key player for Oviedo this season.

Marco Sangalli
Another very important player for Oviedo is San Sebastian born Marco Sangalli, big brother to Real Socieadad's Luca Sangalli
Just like his brother Marco came up at Zubieta and got to debut in LaLiga for La Real but has since played for different Segunda teams

Sangalli came to Oviedo ahead of last season and has become very important for them. He was the player who ran the most for Oviedo last season, but gives a lot more than just a high work rate.
However in Segunda it's extremely important to have players who gives everything.

Player to keep an extra eye on
Riki
Coming up from the b-team and impressing a lot so far during preseason. This 22-year-old midfielder is expected to get his breakthrough season, and if that happens he'll be a key player in order for Oviedo to have a good season.

Coach:
Cuco Ziganda
A past as a player at Osasuna and Athletic, Ziganda have also coached both of those clubs.
His latest coaching job being at Athletic in 2017-18 and it did not go too well. But at Real Oviedo Ziganda has been of to a really good start.

As earlier mentioned Oviedo were struggling a lot when Ziganda came. In the relegation zone and already having fired two coaches during the season.
He helped them stay up and it, at least for now, seems like both Ziganda and Oviedo have found the right fit with each-other.

The Fans
It's impossible to talk about Real Oviedo and not mention the fans. Real Oviedo are it's fans and the club wouldn't even exist today if it weren't for their supporters.
I don't think I will be able to truly explain this bond in just a few tweets, but I will try

In 2001 Real Oviedo were relegated from the Spanish first division to the second. Then they were relegated first on the pitch to the third division (Segunda B) and forced relegated, after having failed to pay players wages, to the fourth division (Tercera Division).
From 2001 to 2003 Real Oviedo went from playing LaLiga football, to play on mud pitches against neighbourhood teams.
More than that the club was in such a bad economical situation, with huge debts, that it didn't look like it would even survive. Actually it seemed impossible.
More than that the club was in such a bad economical situation, with huge debts, that it didn't look like it would even survive. Actually it seemed impossible.
But the Real Oviedo fans would never allow their club to disappear. Instead of giving up, they went creative to find ways to get money to the club. They started to work for the club, without getting paid. They kept the club alive.
Then in 2012 it again looked like Real Oviedo had seen it last days and now it was so bad it seemed not even the fans could save them. But of course they did.
Real Oviedo started to sell shares and every day there was a never ending queue outside of the stadium
Real Oviedo started to sell shares and every day there was a never ending queue outside of the stadium
But even with everyone in Oviedo buying shares it wouldn't be enough. However pictures, videos and stories about the dedication and fight from the fans (much thanks to @sidlowe) reached the world and soon football fans all over the world bought shares in Real Oviedo
The club was saved, among the new shareholders was Grupo Carso led by the then richest man in the world Carlos Slim
By 2015 Real Oviedo returned to professional football winning promotion to Segunda A. And today all the debts are gone. While they have new fans all over the world

There is so much more I could add to this thread. I haven't even mentioned Diego Cervero (which when talking about Oviedo should be a crime). Or Mata/Michu/Cazorla. Or Langara. Or many other key people. I haven't even talked about the Asturian derby.
I'll do that another time
