tw eating disorders

a thread of things NOT to say to someone with anorexia or bulimia.
"you look so healthy!"
"i wish i was that dedicated."
"i could never do that, i love food!"
"why don't you just lose weight healthily?"
"just eat."
"don't worry, this only has ___ calories!"
"have you gone to a hospital?"
"you don't look like you have an eating disorder."
"i skipped a meal today, i'm basically anorexic!"
"how much do you weigh?"
"how are you not dead?"
"you're not skinny enough to have an eating disorder."
"you're just being dramatic."
"you're such an attention-seeker."
"if you were really anorexic, you wouldn't be ____"
"you can't have an eating disorder because ___"
"everyone has an eating disorder."
"it's all in your head!"
"i could never do that to my friends and family."
"you have it too good to have an eating disorder."
"how much weight have you lost so far?"
"you look good though!" (when they're still struggling with an ed)
these were just the things i could think of that have been said to me 😀 if you're looking for things you SHOULD say, avoid talking about appearance, say they look happier, you're proud of them, etc. and most importantly, do your research!
also i feel like the "you look so healthy" is going to have some confusion; it depends on the person, but for the most part, you shouldn't say this because most people struggling with an ed don't want to look healthy, they want to look skinny
calling them healthy makes them think "i need to lose more" therefore making it worse, even if they ARE in recovery. try saying something along the lines of "you look/seem happier and i'm glad that you are" instead
