House rent is the cheapest cost attached to moving out of your parent’s house. By the time they tell you the cost of ordinary curtain, then you remember you still need fridge, Gen & TV, that’s when sudden hunger will hook you. Then you’d realize you don’t have gas cooker 
So after working for a year post-NYSC and doing some side gigs, I was able to save up about 960k. I thought I had arrived and forgot how long it took me to save up that much while under my parent’s roof enjoying free everything.

House hunting in Lagos is sheer madness btw. After checking out different houses with this Agent, I finally find a mini-flat that costs 350k/annum. By the time they added Agent/Agreement and 2 years rent, the money was nearing 850k. I started sweating.
Suddenly I realized how inadequate my 960k was, but a real man doesn’t chicken out, so I still went ahead to pay 3 days later. After payment, they broke the news to me; someone else had beat me to paying for the apartment that morning, but they had another one 15mins away. 
I checked out this “other” place and loved it, so I took the mini flat. Then I realized I at least needed to repaint, buy mattress, Generator, curtains and basic kitchen stuff before I could move in.
By the time I did the Maths, I just went back to my Parent’s house to chill for another 1 month. I’m sure they would have been laughing in their hearts. Suffice to say, I can still remember the Gig that gave me that 200k to buy freezer, Gen and TV. God bless DSTV o .

Bought second-hand bed-sheets and really cheap see-through curtains, bought mattress and forgot about the wooden frame for the next 1 year. By the time I wanted to do some basic furniture, the cost was discouraging all over again.
Let’s just say for the first one year, I lived with only the basic & cheapest things money can afford; didn’t compromise on my Gen though, but everything else was a bargain. Thank God for Growth & Entrepreneurship, wonder how I could have survived with a 960k/annum salary.
When are we going to have a conversation around how expensive white Bulbs are? How can one Bulb cost N800 - 1k, we’re not even talking fancy lights now o, just bulbs. Also has anyone tried to find out the price of fancy lamp holders? Lol.
