Hypothetically if you are a university that invited students back on campus in Sept. and you are worried that they are not doing their 2 weeks of isolation, inviting in the POLICE to enforce isolation after a summer of protests against very real police violence is not a good look
Not only is it not a good look, but you are inviting violence against Black and Indigenous students and this flies in the face of your #BLM publicity stunt statement from earlier in the year.
If you made this massive error in judgement (to put it generously) maybe your 'apology' shouldn't be centered on how this 'made some students feel unsafe'. This is gaslighting. Your decision put Black and Indigenous students' lives in danger. Acknowledge that if you apologize.
And this isn't hypothetical. A Black international student in PEI has been in jail for over a month for allegedly failing to isolate all because he left the hotel room he was confined alone in to seek support for mental health. #freeJavan
