Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is very, very close to being a good game, but there's just a lot of goofiness and broken shit in it. It's also not the greatest netcode around, which hamstrings it severely.
The meta in the game settled very quickly into optimizing for the Tachibana Twins, who, along with your custom player, have the easiest method of scoring in the game, even from almost midfield.

They also inexplicably can block opponents' shots from anywhere on the field.
There's also just a bunch of different skills that honestly should never have been put together, but that can be put together in a custom player to devastating effect.

Young Ace, Possession Demon and Dribble Crazy with Dump Truck Dribble?
The end result is a character that can't lose the ball when running and can build tons of power and shot strength when running into opponents, eventually letting you unleash a shot that no goalkeeper can stop.

Fun!
There is probably no real competitive future for this game unless the community creates some hard limits and rules for it (like Smash), or unless Tamsoft goes out of their way to patch and fix a lot of the issues.
This of course assumes that the netcode will be fixed at any point, which feels unlikely at this point.
I was under no illusions that Rise of New Champions would replace Dream Team as the players' Tsubasa game of choice for competition, nor that it would somehow kill Dream Team, like many people seemed to think it might.

That's just asinine. DT will kill itself w/no outside help.
But Rise of New Champions without some actual direction will just eventually fall out of favor. Hopefully Tamsoft will figure it out.
