Red Fort#1
Chak Fort, also known as Ratta Qila (Red Fort) is located in Muzaffarabad, built on the banks of the Neelum River. It was originally built by the Kashmiri Chak dynasty in 1559 against Mughals. It would be rebuilt by the Bombas in 1646 and then in 1846 by the Dogras.
It uses a rocky outcrop and River Neelum as natural defenses. Its bastions are polygonal rather than round, based on typical Chak designs which had influence on many forts in the region. It also features a tower, not uncommon for a River Fort.
Not to forget, the triple-slit loopholes.
This week I am going to cover all forts known as "Red Fort" in the subcontinent. There are many.
Let's not forget this fort survived the 2005 earthquake!!!
Also there's a Gojra Fort aka Black Fort in Muzaffarabad
Worth pointing out that the fort's wall and bastions are red but the tower is black. This might mean that the tower was built separately from the rest of the fort which isnt unlikely because the fort was built multiple times.
