Secara amnya, tiada specific course at first degree level di Msia. Paleontology is subfield under geology. So kiranya sapa yg ambil geology course, they will take a paleontology subject. Basic.

In my case, during my final year, I opt for major in Petroleum Geology. Thus, ada additional subject kena ambil. It's called micropalaeontology. Basically, belajar fosil kecik2 guna mikroskop.
So, after graduated I worked as research assistant for Prof Basir Jasin.

It's microfossil project. Soon after tht, I'd applied nk fly Edinburgh for my master. Takde sponsor at tht time. Alhamdulillah. Dapat sambung di UTP. My master degree is fully on research mode. Supervised by Dr Aaron Hunter and Dr @cgilesmiller from @NHM_London.

Alhamdulillah. PETRONAS sponsored my master research & we hv MOU in place with the NHM. So I've spent 3 and half years looking for microfossils around Langkawi, Kedah & Perlis.
My master project focus on microfossil and biostratigraphy.

To find fossil isn't easy. Moreover, dinos. First, we must look for certain types of rocks : sedimentary rocks. Batu pasir, batu kapur, batu lumpur ataupun rijang, batu kaya silika. Fosil dlm batu2 ini juga berbeza krn berbeza sekitaran pengendapan dan usia.

Pictured above are limestone in Kedah and Langkawi. That siput like fossil embedded in rocks aged around 400 million years! Awal2 sekali muncul organisma adalah the simpler one, macam siput. Then baru ada ikan, lepas tu dinosaurs.

So, I've practised hunting fossils as a biostrtigrapher in oil and gas industry before. Fosil ni berguna nak cari layers of rocks yg ada minyak ataupun gas. Especially nannoplankton and foraminiferas. Yg jumpa gigi dino dlm movie Deepwater Horizon tu tipu okay?
Takdak pulak gambaq kat site. Gambaq ni pun ok la no?
