Today I will talk about my own crime plan, as a victim of crime itself - it made me think more as to what can be done.

Our biggest problem is a lack of talent and a lack of sufficient resource and strategy coupled with high levels of corruption.

Let’s begin ...
The JCF is not aspirational and is usually not a career path sought out by the brightest minds - if that has changed I stand corrected.

The first step is to increase the entry requirements and at the same time increase the remuneration - less is more.
We have this massive police force with many just stationed daily at what appears to be mobile police stations on side walks doing not much other than counting cars.

We need to create elite units equivalent to that of the FBI, something to aspire to and that would attract talent
Those units would be designed to deal with gangs and other organized crimes with a research and development section with the whole works of criminal psychologist et al.

Not MOCA

Studies need to start happening on those incarcerated - even if it leads to reduction in sentences.
This is to facilitate learning n understanding the psyche of the local criminal mind - yes - we would find out about the funding n how they got started.

Assign units to gangs and specific cases, most detectives r bogged down with too little focus which is y we don’t solve much
Assign lawyers to detectives and police officers who can guide them prior to going on scenes as to what to look for n what’s needed exactly in order to prosecute.

Just as you see they do on Law n Order - our police nt efficient with handling evidence n knowing what to look for
Interrogation techniques isn’t all that effective either.

On a lighter note u need some wives to come in and teach tht... but yes, that’s not all that effective

Stop laughing at petty crimes, they are usually connected to a larger network and soilders talk faster than generals
When I got robbed recently at around 7 pm and called the police - they asked if a gun was used and I said yes and they asked where n said they would send a patrol.

All now the lady don’t ask if me alright n ask me to stay on the line or to describe d person.

Let me continue
I asked where I can report the crime, the lady say because is after 7 and a gun is involved - that unit is closed so I have to go to xyz tomorrow between ... and she gave some office hours.

Me hang up the phone - nobody called me back to this day. Those petty criminals evolve
You have to treat each crime with urgency - they could be the big break that lead you to large criminal networks but nooooo man rob people with gun everyday - you are just another one.

The working conditions is a whole other thing. I’ve been to at least 8 police stations and...
I commend the officers for showing up daily.

How we collect statements is another thing - the mighty big book has to go and I hear we digitizing but I’m like doubtful Thomas, I have to see it first.

The stand and give statement is also a no no - like a wholesale you deh!
The whole station hear what you saying and even start make commentary.

You leave and don’t even know who to contact if you want an update on the case.

This paying for statements is also a solid no - why must a citizen pay for that, like it’s a separate service on a menu board
The forensics unit need more people, more resources et al. Why can’t UWI offer these degrees for free or severely subsidized through the Govt.

When me say subsidize - me mean subsidized, don’t bother come with the likkle bit a money discount šŸ˜’
I like the new vehicles, the Rav 4 and the Mitsubishi’s - them nice you see.

But those are designed to carry families, not the rigors of crime fighting and potential high speed chasing.

Dem deh chasis nuh make for collision or easy repairs - why unno a buy them ?

Dem edited ?
The whole HR process need a overhaul - from compensation to constant training and development.

I recall a big uproar recently when we found out how long it took for your family to get paid if you died on the job and the amount.

Cmon these are ppl risking their lives daily
The solution is not in SOEs but to look more at the social issues n understand them better while retrofitting the force to be better equipped.

Serious investment is needed if is even to consider not thieving this term and putting the money there.

I know that’s a reach but ...
