Incredible positivity to the announcement of parkrun's return in England. Naturally some are opposed to the decision (totally understandable)

A lot of people have, from a health and wellbeing perspective, breezed through lockdown and the lingering restrictions.
Sales of bikes, home gym equipment and no doubt Zwift subscriptions have soared...

Those fortunate enough to have the time, the space, the money and the positive inclination have been able to exercise independently.
And many people have got fitter.
But the last 6 months have seen huge numbers of us become inactive, lonely, and isolated...

Those who need parkrun the most have been hardest hit. The disadvantaged, and those living with disabilities and long term health conditions. Those who haven't had the luxury of time, or the available space...
And those who simply haven't had the privileged experience of sport and physical activity, or the positive association with it in the past to have developed the courage to go it alone...
The exclusion from local communities and the removal of support networks has exacerbated health inequalities.
For many, exercising alone, or without regularity, structure & a safe environment simply isn't possible...

parkrun provides a non-judgmental support network. It gives people purpose and a sense of belonging. It can provide motivation and community and is a lifeline for those who depend on it...
Human beings have a need to be social, active and outdoors.
So it's great if you can 'just go for a run' on your own. But many can't.
*That's* why parkrun must return.
