Just jumping back onto Twitter temporarily to show how stupid land use zoning in Malaysia is, especially around water bodies (ft. @fazleyff )
Remember that factory that polluted Sungai Selangor? While it was running illegally, it's important to note that the whole area where the factory was sitting on was ZONED AS INDUSTRIAL LAND
What does this mean? Basically, even if the factory did apply for a development permit, that land use could still be authorised (subject to conditions within the permit which are rarely enforced anyway). TLDR the local council has created a land use time bomb next to the river
Also @MPSelayang I found a document that shows you already knew about systemic issues surrounding ad-hoc development and unauthorised land uses since 2017 which has contributed to this new water crisis. Komen sikit?
