Tuesday morning, first day back to school. Woke up excited this morning to see all my friends and peers, teachers and I’m really excited about my courses. However I’m still nervous about walking through the doors and knowing the unknown.
With that, I was on @infomorning discussing Back to School to share some insight of what it would look like this morning, and I’m curious to see what the bus trip will actually look like!
My bus is suppose to come at 8:56, and just got picked up at 9:12. Expected — first day of school. I’m going to start a thread and update you all on how my first COVID school day goes.
Arrived around 9:30, missed roughly 10 minutes of instructional time. 24-28 students in the classroom. High schools have 2 classes a day an are 2h 30m long. They’re grouping students by floor for a break, for a span of 10 minutes and cannot leave the floor.
It’s now lunch time and students are either allowed to stay inside the school on their floor, or leave the school. I see roughly 200-400 students outside by the front door, also with masks off. Not good.
A grade 10 student came to me and asked me where my the guidance was. I’m happy.
Also CTV news at the school. This is chaos. @withwozney
I just want to say thank you to my school staff for being patient with everyone, and understanding. They’ve done a tremendous job so far in trying to control everything and figuring out things. As today is the first day of school, we know it’s not going to be...
perfect, but like I said on @infomorning is that we need to work as a team including students and teachers/staff. We want this year to be a great year. So far, the only flaw was lunch time.
It’s now the end of the day, and walkers & drivers able leave. Bus students are being called from the classroom, and are updated live from a shared google document. Live information is critical.
Again, I want to say thanks again to my school staff for great communication and trying to mitigate the possibility of COVID cases going inside the school. 👏
