There is a shrill narrative developing around Covid19. As cases increase there seems to be a trend for 'virus shaming'. Somehow, it would appear, if you get Covid, it's your own fault 1/
#COVID19ireland
If a case appears in a school, that particular school is accused of inadequate social distancing, or the child of having come back from abroad and not isolated (to name but a few accusations) 2/
If a young person gets it, well, they 'partied too much' 3/
If an older person gets it, younger folk they have contact with 'partied too much' 4/
But here's the thing, Ireland. You don't 'get' Covid. You are 'given' it. 5/
Covid can come into your life after doing everything right:
Limiting social contacts
Wearing a mask
Practicing cough etiquette
Hand hygeine
Social distancing
Isolating and getting tested if sick
If you do all of this and someone else does not, you are given Covid 6/
Those who have gone for testing have done the responsible thing. Those diagnosed with Covid through testing have done the responsible thing. They should be thanked, not shamed 7/
So quit the Covid shaming, Ireland. Stop pointing the finger and casting aspersions on those with Covid. Be responsible for your own actions. Follow the guidelines. And be assured that if you are unfortunate enough to contract Covid, you will be cared for with compassion 8/
Because people who are sick with Covid19 deserve compassion, not criticism; sympathy, not shame. Be kind, Ireland. Be responsible. Be safe.
