The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 28 August 2020 (week 35) was 9,032.

This was

The number of deaths registered in week 35 was 9.6% above the five-year average (791 deaths higher).

This is the third consecutive week that weekly deaths have been above the five-year average, however, the rise was not driven by #COVID19 http://ow.ly/3HqD50Bkwc6 
Of the deaths registered in Week 35, 101 mention #COVID19 on the death certificate (1.1% of all deaths).

This has fallen since the previous week (Week 34) when 1.4% of all deaths mentioned COVID-19 http://ow.ly/6dub50Bkwg6 
Of deaths involving #COVID19 registered up to Week 35, 33,151 deaths (63.4%) occurred in hospital with the remainder mainly occurring in care homes (15,484), private homes (2,477) and hospices (747) http://ow.ly/WVwK50Bkwmr 
The number of deaths involving #COVID19 decreased across the majority of the English regions, however all regions had higher overall deaths than the five-year average http://ow.ly/LWa050Bkws5 
In Wales, there were 3 deaths registered in Week 35 involving #COVID19, a decrease compared with the 11 deaths registered in Week 34 http://ow.ly/FMcv50Bkwy2

In England, of all deaths that occurred up to 28 August (registered up 5 September), 49,676 involved #COVID19.

For Wales our data show that up to 28 August (registered up to 5 September) 2,565 deaths involved #COVID19
