I get #LovecraftCountry wanted to include Indigenous representation but HOLY FUCK! What an epic fail. I absolutely despise how filmmakers take any opportunity to not only misrepresent Native identities but live out their fantasies of inflicting brutal violence on Native bodies

Notice I say bodies because in film, that is how we are treated.....as bodies, as mere props. Our real life traumas and horrors taken and reimagined in even more brutal ways for the sake of entertainment.

And to be honest, you know what bothered me the most was the misrepresentation of Two Spirit identities. If you are going to include marginalized identities, like Two Spirit identities, you are fucking obligated to get it right.

Especially since the very use of the term did not even make sense because Yahima was Arawak and existed long before 1990 when the term was coined. They would not have identified as two spirit.

They would have still had their inherent cultural gender/spiritual identities that existed before colonization. Not to mention that Two Spirit is not just gender or sexuality.

If @LovecraftHBO and @HBO want to remedy their complete disregard for Native peoples, they need to hire @LucasBrownEyes @yerawizardkelly @janaunplgd or any of our amazing and talented Native writers.

And @LovecraftHBO and @HBO absolutely owe Monique Candalaria an apology. They won't ask one for one and will probably try to play it off not wanting to seem troublesome and wanting to be considered for future projects. But our Native actors and actresses deserve so much better.
