Hi @NZStuff really love that you’re highlighting this, and providing visibility of Covid-19’s impacts.
I‘d really like to ask you to check two statements from here:
“While the vast majority of those struck down with the virus will make a full recovery” https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300100689/covid19-am-i-going-to-survive-the-lingering-effects-of-coronavirus-and-the-long-hard-road-to-recovery

We don’t have the data yet to make that statement.
There are estimates that 1 in 10 get #LongCovid https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-effects/scientists-just-beginning-to-understand-the-many-health-problems-caused-by-covid-19-idUSKBN23X1BZ

“78 of 100 people diagnosed with COVID-19 had cardiac abnormalities when their heart was imaged on average 10 weeks later, most often inflammation in heart muscle. Many of the participants in that study were previously healthy” https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/07/brain-fog-heart-damage-covid-19-s-lingering-problems-alarm-scientists
Second statement: “Haines has seen young patients bounce back in weeks, but for older patients and those with underlying illness full recovery often takes several months.”
Haines may have seen this, but this categorically does not just affect older patients and people with underlying illness. Anecdotal evidence in fact suggests that #LongCovid particularly affects people that were young, fit, and healthy. Including kiwis https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/young-auckland-woman-details-scary-battle-covid-19-says-its-far-worse-than-flu
There are 600k affected with Long Covid in the UK - not all of them are old. https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-53368768
If you’d like to double check this experience @Jenene can help you out. https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/sunday/audio/2018762790/jenene-crossan-six-months-of-life-with-covid-19
Or @Freya_sawbridge https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/09-08-2020/i-tested-positive-for-covid-19-in-march-and-im-still-horribly-sick/
Or I can - but I’m tricky because like many #LongCovid patients, I don’t have the “benefit” of a positive test.
A pity NZ still doesn’t acknowledge Long Covid/the BMJ’s direction that a positive diagnosis should not be a prerequisite for treatment

Anyway. @NZStuff if you could please double check this article I’d be really grateful.
Long Covid isn’t a thing anyone wants and I worry about the impression that it just strikes down the old and infirm - which it doesn’t.
Thanks so much!
