Next Monday I'll be taking a floatplane to the tiny coastal community of Wuikinuxv, with their permission.

It's such a privilege to finally be able to return to this special place, on assignment for @thenarwhalca and @beside_media, thanks to the support of @pulitzercenter.
To manage the risk to the community, I've kept my contacts low for two weeks. I'll be masked up any time I'm around people. I'm driving the length of Vancouver Island to avoid flying until it's necessary. All interviews will be done outside. When not working I'll be on my own.
Covid has made travel for work a lot more complicated and it's delayed this trip, which was supposed to be in March, until now. But I think it's still important that small communities are able to get their stories out, on their terms and in as safe a manner as possible.
So I guess I should also pack some...clothes? Toothbrush?
Well the drone is already coming in handy.
This happened today. Two orcas chasing a mother and calf humpback whale just outside of Rivers Inlet.

(Excuse the video filmed from another device; I don't have my laptop with me and the DJI app is trash.)
Sad to be leaving this beautiful community behind today. Thank you to the people of Wuikinuxv for your hospitality and warmth.
