One person who could EASILY do a lot RIGHT NOW to help secure the freedom of Julian Assange is @DavidLeighx, the former Guardian editor who published the #Cablegate password in his book.

He blocked me years ago but I've been checking his tweets...
In May 2017 @DavidLeighx foolishly suggested that that UK police would turn a blind eye if Assange tried to escape the embassy and flee to Ecuador. I can only assume this was some kind of sick joke.
In April 2019 former Guardian EIC @arusbridger said Assange should not be extradited to the USA. @DavidLeighx responded to his brother in law (and ex boss) by saying Assange should be "extradited to Sweden first" (so UK can wash its hands of him).
Two weeks later @DavidLeighx reiterated this call: "Assange will then become Sweden's problem".

He clearly had no concerns about Assange being jailed for life in the USA, he just wanted to spare UK authorities the embarrassment of publicly destroying a journalist's life.
It's not like @DavidLeighx didn't understand the "grave threat" posed by Trump's attack on journalism, he just didn't want the UK govt embarrassed.

He said Assange was "a bloody fool to help Trump into power". Presumably he would have kept the #DNCleaks & #PodestaEmails secret?
In November 2019 @DavidLeighx again followed Rusbridger's lead & finally admitted that it was "a political case" and Assange "should therefore not be extradited to the US".
But @DavidLeighx still refuses to take responsibility for publishing the #Cablegate password. He calls it "hoax nonsense"!

Most of the US charges against Assange relate to what they call "irresponsible dumping" of data. But it was Leigh and others who made the archive public.
ICYMI a WikiLeaks staffer posted a copy of the archive "in the wild" for security. Domscheit-berg later told German media how to find it & @DavidLeighx published the password. Assange only published the unredacted files on http://wikileaks.org  because they were already public.
It's time for @DavidLeighx to admit his mistake. Instead he blames Assange for not telling him the password was still active when he and @LukeHarding1968 rushed their money-grabbing book into print.

A man's life is at stake and a dangerous precedent is being set. #FreeASSANGE
