Hi kids! Time for me to point out another link between #FFXIV and #FFIV!

Estinien is obviously Kain 2.0 in many obvious ways, but here's a less obvious clue: Both wield blood-soaked lances at one point, which screws with their mind. (1/2)
Very easy to miss in FF IV. Advanced for GBA and Collection for PSP have "Lunar Trials" for each character. Kain's trial involves a miniature murder mystery centred around a bloody lance that keeps returning to his bedside. It's the work of his [ahem] Dark Side. (2/3, oops)
FF IV's After Years gets extremely Persona with a lot of talk about embracing your dark side instead of denying it, etc. Kain fucks that up by trying to tamp down his subconscious desire to kill Cecil and take Rosa for himself.

You CAN kill him but uh you fail the trail. (4/đŸ±)
If Kain tells his dark side to fuck off--which doesn't work in the long term, but w/e--he fights Lunar Bahamut and the blood-stained lance becomes the bitchin' Abel Lance. (5/%)
Know what's weird? Years, YEARS ago I remember reading a fanfic where a blood-soaked lance followed Kain in the same manner, and it led to him fighting Wyvern--Bahamut's lunar counterpart in FF4 (who was also his father, lol, God bless fandom.)
Here's Kain's trial as an LP!

Thanks for coming to yet another useless retro RPG Ted Talk by Nadia!
