Abp Lefebvre was not excommunicated, a thread
Firstly we must mention the fact that consecration of bishops without the mandate of the Holy See is nessentially a schismatic act. Neither did Lefebvre have a schismatic intention, which is absolutely necessary to be a formal schism. The bishops he consecrated don't claim a-
jurisdiction.

Yet in Ecclesia dei it was claimed he was automatically excommunicated, but this literally cannot be true. These canons show that a person whom even *thinks* there is a state of necessity does not incur an automatic penalty

"BBBBut pope supreme legislator!1!"-
Leo Xlll Apostolicae curae et caritatis: " Concerning the mind or intention, inasmuch as it is in itself something interior, the Church does not pass judgement" The pope cannot judge the interior intention of Lefebvre! Impossible! So to still even hold to that error you-
must assume that Lefebvre lied about his intentions and that Pope JPll knew this, well the Pope can't commit the sin of calumny against a prince of the Church in promulgating anything let alone a sentence of excommunication. Augustine says (De Lib. Arb. i, 5),-
"a law that is not just, seems to be no law at all." St Thomas agrees, a law which is not just isn't a law at all, and it is not just to accuse a prelate of the Church of lying.
In conclusion, Canon law and Natural law show that the Pope was wrong and Lefebvre was not excommunicated.
