Can you notice your emotions without reacting to them?
Being reactive is valid but is it authentic? Or it is simply the best you know how to do based on the way you have been programmed to see the world through an overactive threat detection system in the brain and nervous system?
When your brain is set to detect threats guess what it filters out? It doesn’t filters out the danger, it filters out the love, support, connection, safety that is present because that’s not what it’s looking for. It’s only looking for harm.
One example of how trauma impacts the brain is that children who have been exposed to violence during their developmental years are not only more likely to experience challenges in their stress regulatory ability but also more likely to misinterpret a situation.
When the amygdala is overreactive it’s less receptive to information that provides context. Context is important because it allows us to see how in certain situations something is actually not dangerous/threatening. And that it simply reminds us in some way of a past experience.
This week I am offering a free mini-course that highlights what we are covering in our upcoming 6-week course, Embodying Liberation.
Please let me know if there are specific questions you would like us answer about the course.
We also launch our scholarship program soon! https://twitter.com/Maryamhasnaa/status/1297256216276512768
