Wintergarden relationship explained as YinYang: a thread
Disclaimer: this thread is opinionated and is based on my observations and observations only.
Jang Gyeoul represents the yin (black). The dark feminine side associated with everything hard, cold, winter and negative. Gyeoul depicts being blunt which others might have seen as cold-hearted and misunderstood her as being rude. Her name, winter, has become her personality.
Ahn Jeongwon represents the yang (white). The light muscline side associated with things soft, dry, warm and positive. Jeongwon is known in the hospital as a warm person not only to his friends and colleagues but to his patients as well.
Yin Yang needs to be in balance in order to maintain harmony by the opposing forces. It is a concept on dualism, describing how seemingly two forces are opposite but has actually found interconnection and complementary to one another.
The characters itself represent the color of the yin yang - black and white, meanwhile the small dots inside their opposite side represent coexisting in each other. In the confession scene, Gyeoul was wearing her doctor's gown and Jeongwon was in his dark coat.
At the end of season 1, Gyeoul's character development from being the cold-hearted doctor to slowly learning and correcting her attitude towards other people was shown. It might or might not have because of Jeongwon scolding her and
reminding her that doctors should be responsible with their words when talking to the patients's guardian.
Jeongwon was accustomed to keep and to do things alone. He was known to do his surgeries alone as Pediatric surgeons in SK were so rare. Still, in the later episodes, he was calling Gyeoul for help.
Letting Gyeoul lead her first surgery under his department was one moment where Jeongwon was starting to destroy the walls he built for his feelings for her. From doing things alone to teaching her to become a good doctor and to sharing with her their beautiful moments in the OR.
Conclusion: Jeongwon and Gyeoul, as known with different personalities, attract and compliment each other. They might seem not vibing because of their differences but that could actually help the one lacking something.
Constantly learning from one another as themselves and as doctors will achieve the harmony of the two opposing poles. Jeongwon and Gyeoul still have more memories to share and to build with. They balance each other.
To compliment each other doesn't necessarily mean having similarities rather filling each other's flaws despite being totally opposite to one another.
