I would really prefer if it was just like, a good story about these characters because the prequel stuff is easily the worst part of this show TBH.
Is Saul going to inject Walt with cancer juice or something to fulfill his meth-cooking destiny. What exactly needs to be explained here. "Breaking Bad" was good because it was a fairly simple story told well.
"Better Call Saul", honestly I don't think it's a very good story. What even is the story? But it's still a good show thanks to good acting, aesthetics, and baseline entertainment value.
Not a single thing that "Better Call Saul" has "explained" so far adds anything to "Breaking Bad", including such gems as "how did a lawyer get a receptionist", "why would a flashy guy wear a pinky ring", and "how would a crooked lawyer know a tough guy PI".
But that doesn't need to be explained! We know or can surmise it had something to do with clashing egos and Walt held a grudge about it, and that Walt is a pretty self-deluding guy but the Grey Matter people seemed pretty bad too. What would this add. https://twitter.com/dtlerch/status/1297260109534507009?s=19
Honestly I think it's inspiring. Normally, no amount of craft can rescue a bad story. But the people behind "Better Call Saul" are good enough at television that they made a good show out of an idea that's basically pointless.
Like if these were completely independent shows it would actively improve both. Knowing that Saul was only "Saul Goodman" for a couple of years basically detracts from the "Breaking Bad" character.
And they don't need to sell it this way! BCS is fifty episodes in, and has its own interest. People are wondering what happens to Kim, not if Bryan Cranston will show up shopping for a house with Anna Gunn.
Oh I hope they're not going to "explain where Gus Fring came from" even more. I like the ambiguity and air of mystery. They've done enough to Gus Fring anyway.
