There’s no denying that Matt Smith has made some pretty immature comments and probably isn’t quite as liberal as Christopher Eccleston but I don’t think you can take screenshots from tabloids as proof of the whole story
Just so we’re clear I’m saying there’s more than likely elements of truth in all the accusations but I think some of them are jokes that not only are just in poor taste but also don’t come across very well in an out of context section from an article
right i’m just gonna go through it all before people get it twisted.
first off the thing in that article about him being so desperate for a son was him jokingly acting like Henry VIII given he’s playing a member of the royal family and the royal family are traditionally always so desperate for sons, especially Henry VIII
it defo came across questionable to say the least and was a fairly poor joke but that could be down to the way the author of the article worded it OR matt himself.
the thing between him and lily james doesn’t sound great at all but again the evidence given is a newspaper article and we all know how the press likes to treat celebs. but even if it’s not 100% true it still sounds quite bad however you look at it
the jlaw comment,,,,, all i’ll say is i’ve heard thirstier things and things that could be argued to be just as inappropriate on stan twitter. saying that, there’s a difference between saying that kind of thing on twitter as a fan and in a public appearance as a celebrity
so yeah probably not the most appropriate comment to make in an interview...
the thing about him questioning why people don’t celebrate prince phillip,,,, i suppose he could be contractually obliged not to speak negatively about the royal family given he was starring in a drama about them but i don’t think he DEFO didn’t need to go that far.
also, again, i don’t think it’s fair to rely on one section from an article to completely comprehend his views on the royal family.
and finally the whole tory argument that seems to surface every few months... like i said at the start of this thread, i defo don’t think he’s as left wing as Eccleston but going by this article he’s not a fan of the current government to say the least https://twitter.com/capaldlsco/status/1211187141528698880
sorry to the OP for resurfacing one of their tweets from like eight months ago but i could just remember seeing that quote the last time this discourse happened and not remembering where it was from!
but yeah i think the main problem is that he’s just a bit tone deaf sometimes but i do have a hard time believing these stories as 100% fact based on a few out of context article screenshots
regardless, all those comments are pretty uncomfortable to read so i don’t blame anyone for being upset by them. they’re not nice at all
