Well, after about 4 million replies, I think I have it. It’s mainly that she is pretty, young & has a mind of her own, with race thrown in as a bonus. I saw this with Amanda Knox. The press did not need her to be royal to print all sorts of bullshit about her. She sold papers.
And, I suppose, to @piersmorgan , circulation = importance just as to someone as shallow as Trump, money = self worth. After all his (Piers) years in the game he has come to equate the two unquestioningly. If a story sells papers it’s intrinsically big.
Nobody has said something I’ve seen hinted at - that she wants exposure but only if it’s favourable. Thus, they sue for privacy breaches but parade themselves & their causes. Anything in that?

Also, I read one of the minor royals greeted her wearing an insulting broach ....
