Good thread.

There is no plan. As far as Dept are concerned they're expected in school, risk to them or families be damned (bar very high risk)

My worry is some schools, knowing how incredibly wrong and unfair this is, will take it upon themselves to support remote learning

I get why, we do what we do for the kids and this is horribly unfair.

But, it's incredibly important that this doesn't happen. To the point u feel @INTOnews should have a clear directive against it.

This may seem very heartless on my part, and short term probably is, BUT

If some schools so this, there's an immediate gap between school who can do this and schools that can't. It puts enormous pressure on staff and starts a clear us vs them. Parents will rightly question why the kid down the road is getting support and their child isnt

So every school starts having to do it, so as not to lose kids or have their kids fall behind.

Without the resources needed, or support or funding.

It allows the Dept off the hook for their lack of planning and further increases burnout levels for staff

The only way these families get the support they deserve is through sustained pressure, from parents and families, for the Dept to support their child's learning. Some schools making do without resources will have a negative long term impact on all families in this situation

It goes against everything we do & are as educators to stand by & watch pupils failed like this. But the only way to really fix it, it to abide by the guidelines as they are, highlight the deficiencies and impact, encourage families to complain and fight for better with them

We need to be united, strong and clear in this. The Dept MUST step up and fulfil their obligations here and provide appropriate supports and resourcing.
