Decent update re UCSC/SantaCruz
*not official #CZULightningComplex

Good progress on mitigation/fuel reduction past 24 hours. Dozer lines in place from Rt1 to Rt9 across upper campus. Contingency line in place from UCSC west entrance to Rt1 north/west of Moore Creek preserve. 1/x
Winds have pushed 🔥 and 💨 toward Santa Cruz all week so far, w/big smoke limiting air ✈️ support. Tomorrow that will change as winds shift, push fire and smoke west (back towards fire on that front). This also clears flight paths for air support. 2/x
These are favorable conditions,
BUT THIS IS NOT OVER.
Short-term (~tomorrow afternoon) the main challenge is holding fire lines, esp near downtown boulder creek... near homes, anywhere fire can become erratic or out of control, and cause spot fires, etc. This is fire. 3/x
NEXT MAJOR CHALLENGE is the #fireweather. The #Firewx forecast is for MORE LIGHTNING 🌩 starting Sunday. There is risk of new fires from dry lightning with this weather event and downdraft winds from any passing wx that could kick up embers. 4/x @RobMayeda is ALWAYS on this beat.
