The history of Drake and Kanye’s beef, a thread
Drake started his career off heavily influenced by Kanye, even rapping over the beats to 2 of his songs, Barry Bonds and Say You Will. Kanye was happy at the time to help Drake along in his career.
Kanye would soon get more involved with Drake’s career. He directed the music video for “Best I Ever Had” and co-wrote/co-produced “Find Your Love.” Some people theorize this was Kanye trying to sabotage Drakes career from the beginning, (1/2)
as the music video is infamously terrible, and the beat for “Find Your Love” is not that great for Kanye standards as well as being poorly mixed. (2/2)
At this point, both of those tracks blew up. Kanye began feeling threatened by Drake, even saying that he wouldn’t help him with his album because he got too big.
Kanye brought Drake out to work on his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, where he recorded a verse for “All Of The Lights.” The verse was scrapped for some unknown reason, leaving Drake only on 1 single line.
In 2011, Drake took a jab at Kanye and Jay-Z for making a collab album. He joked that the two stole the idea from Drake and Wayne, who also had planned to release a collab album. Later that year, Drake said he wanted to be better than Kanye, not his equal.
Continuing on Drakes hopes to surpass Kanye, he rapped “I’m just feeling like the throne is for the taking/Watch me take it,” on DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One.” Kanye now likely sees Drake as a direct threat to his place at the top of the hip hop game.
Drake raps on Kanye again in a lighthearted way, saying “Now I got a house in LA, now I got a bigger pool than Ye, And look, man, Ye’s pool is nice, mine’s just bigger’s what I’m saying.” Kanye responded by saying “I have three pools”
Kanye’s Saint Pablo tour in 2016 was infamous for his rants during the performances. Kanye gets mad at DJ Khaled and Drake for “setting up” songs to be played on the radio more. Drake later says he chose to ignore it and keep doing his own thing.
Kanye worked with Drake in 2018, where he revealed to ye that his album was dropping in June. Kanye then announced that he would release 5 projects, all produced by him, throughout May and June.
Kanye gave Drake the “Lift Yourself” beat while the two worked on Ye’s album in Wyoming. Later that year, Kanye would release “Lift Yourself” as a single with complete nonsense for lyrics.
In 2018, Kanye solo produced an album for Pusha T. On one of the tracks, “Infared” Pusha takes a shot at Drake, "It was written like Nas but it came from Quentin," referencing his ghost writer allegations.
Drake quickly fired back with “Duppy Freestyle” which was mostly about Kanye. Drake reveals he wrote for multiple Kanye songs, as well as accusing him of holding Virgil back because he was threatened by him.
Pusha T released the bombshell “The Story Of Adidon” which revealed Drake’s son that he’d been hiding. Drake assumes that Kanye told Push, since they’re close and Drake recently disclosed the info to Ye. Push claims Drake’s producer, 40, leaked the info on his kid.
Kanye responded to the drama with a verse on “No Mistakes” off his album ye.
“Too close to snipe you, truth told, I like you
Too bold to type you, too rich to fight you
Calm down, you light skin!”
Drake put a Kanye diss in yet another song, saying “Keeping it G, I told her don’t wear no 350s around me.”
This led Kanye to apologize for releasing the albums close to Drake’s.
Kanye went on one of his famous twitter tirades, with this one being completely aimed at Drake. I’ve included all of the tweets. Drake simply responded with a purple demon emoji on his IG story.
This leads us to today, where Kanye tweeted “Drake🤔” while talking about grooming children. This led Drake to include several line on his newest single, “Laugh Now, Cry Later” to be directly aimed at Ye. (1/2)
The lines in question are “Distance between us is not like a store, this isn't a closeable gap” in reference to Kanye’s recent deal with Gap and “We took a trip, now we on your block and it's like a ghost town” referencing Kanye’s song “Ghost Town”
