can't believe ppl are still convinced the distribution of that film has any merits that could possibly outweigh or justify depicting young (esp. black) girls in such a manner but all I have to say is:
if it didn't centre on a lil muslim black girl ppl wouldn't believe there's a possibly worthy narrative to be teased out despite the obviously terrible medium thru which its being delivered, like the dark stuff wouldn't seem so secondary to the "narrative" y'know
it requires the underlying belief (centred on ideas muslims are inherently regressive, require upheaval) that a "profound" narrative remarking on or depicting cultural/religious conflict is the grounds for which this hyper-sexualisation w/ a racialised trope can be given a chance
don't think it'd have certain ppl giving it the benefit of the doubt, if a director had depicted non-muslim black girls in this manner cos there'd seem to be no explicit/implicit political merit in justifying such a depiction & ppl'd be just fully condemnatory off jump
lemme j say when I saw the trailer I wasn't that outraged tbh but that one poster & knowing there's "crotch shots" of the girls dancing & it apparently centres on the lil girl maimouna introducing a new dance move (to win) where they're grinding into the ground is v disgusting
don't think anyone can still insist this is gonna be a succesful critique of hyper-sexualisation.. when it acc portrays little girls in that light 🤢
