As we approach #PathMatch21 every residency will have lots to say about why their own program fabulous (and #UVAPath sure is!)... yet no program a perfect fit for every candidate, the #path2path and through residency looks different for everyone.
Candidates have to consider program specifics PLUS geography, family needs, partner job prospects, cost-of-living, etc. With that in mind before we launch into our next week of #UVAPathCamp, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of my fav folks at OTHER great programs...
First: my alma matter! @StanfordPath is full of incredibly brilliant and balanced faculty like @BrookeHowittMD, and living in the Bay Area is magical. You could not ask for a better PD than @DrKimAllison! The family-like vibe reminds me so much of #UVAPath
Next up: @UMichPath! Another incredible group: hello, @Tom_J_Giordano! So grateful they’re sharing @LaurieGeeMD with us for fellowship, she’s evidence of the truly stellar training you provide.
Residents are also lucky to match at @PennPathLabMed! Faculty like @aakasharmand and @lendeschwartz make this place awesome, and speaking to the residents last year showed me what an awesome group they are.
If you love cytology, you will be incredibly lucky to train with @Sara_Jiang and her colleagues at @DukePathDept! Their ultrasound-guided FNA program is fantastic and a marker of their commitment to hands-on patient care.
@PathologyUAMS is full of gems! Their PD Dr. Jeffus is a fantastic educator and resident advocate, and faculty like @MightyDermPath create an incredibly supportive environment. Loving having one of their graduates as a fellow now!
Cleveland is full of good people, including plenty of #UVAPath grads! The PD Deb Chute always has the residents’ backs, John Goldblum is phenom, and whipsmart @GIlymphomapath has a laugh audible for miles! @CCFPathRes
Getting to work with @PathDocBoston at @MGHPathology would be a TREAT! He’s such a passionate advocate and superb educator.
There is no doubt: BWH provides fabulous training among brilliant folks! With faculty like @MRNucciMD, @CPHpath, and my dear friend Vickie Jo plus trainees like @pathnoob is a truly stand-out.
Residents at @WCMCPathology get to work with the brilliant @RhondaYantiss, whose no-nonsense approach to teaching and research makes her incredibly effective at moving the field of GI path forward, and bringing others along with her.
One of my very favorite humans, Liz Thompson, works at @JHUPath. We were med school roommates, & I always just sort of basked in her glow! She remains among the smartest and kindest people on the planet and it would be a sheer delight to train w/ her! Marisa White is also FAB!
I have been so impressed from afar by @NU_Pathology. Their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is awesome. Our incredible former fellow @ElishevaShanes and former med student Rebecca Obeng are there and they are simply marvelous.
Iowa is a powerhouse! I have glimpsed their excellence in post-soph alums like @JDavickMD and @mega_dibbs_md, and you won’t find a more productive faculty mentor than @IHC_guy!
This list is by no means exhaustive, but it’s getting late! Feel free to add your own favorites, I know I’ve only scratched the surface!
For candidates: This is just a sampling of the amazing places there are to train out there. There are MANY more. Regardless of where you end up, welcome to our world... its denizens are a good bunch!
