This is a photograph taken of people (who have now been identified) that showed up at #1492LandBackLane with perpetual bad-actors and racist demagogue Dave Menzies, from Rebel News. The most vocal of them is James Bradbury. /1 https://twitter.com/1492lbl/status/1296231025140432897
one of the men in this photo, Bradbury, a guy from Caledonia who paraded about in a MAGA ripoff hat (America replaced with Canada) went online to try and spin his involvement to be that of a “sympathetic, but with limits” individual who “tried to help” the cause /2
I’m not sure what help Bradbury believes he was providing. In May he did an interview with Dave Menzies from Rebel News about how he was making masks and the local healthcare provider wouldn’t accept them. The only spin on that would be to embarrass frontline workers/hospitals /3
days ago, Bradbury again did an interview with Menzies, wearing his MAGA hat, Rebel and him follow each other, he clearly has met Menzies before so he can’t claim to not know what the lean of that media is. In the article he was in Menzies calls covid “the Wuhan Virus” /4
Bradbury himself believe he had attempted to “defend” the encampment if you look at his twitter posts. So either he is a supremely naive person with no reading comprehension skills, or he wanted to be on camera again and didn’t care about the risks to the camp by doing so. /5
The audience that follows Rebel are notoriously racist, usually extremely right leaning, and generally respond in comments suggesting protesters and left-leaning activist be met with violence. They claim everyone is “antifa” because they know it engages their base /6
Bradbury inviting and encouraging Menzies to go to the encampment outside Caledonia is like inviting a fox to a henhouse and then saying “but I did tell the fox how much I like chicken.” Bradbury himself accompanied Rebel to the site and tried to encourage an interview. /6
Menzies and his team travel all over Ontario, and no one was wearing any PPE. They were told to leave. Bradbury then acted like he was a victim of some imagined attack and that *he* was the one who was threatened by this interaction. /7
I have to wonder how it is that Bradbury can claim to have been the one who was threatened in this situation. After personally escorting in an audience of bad actors an racists, after providing an interview and gift-wrapped narrative for Rebel to use in their latest grift. /8
Bradbury was never in any danger but he certainly helped Rebel film and broadcast images of a vulnerable racialized population, in the middle of a dispute, who have already been brutalized by OPP, peddle dangerous conspiracies about non-existent arson and violence. /9
And he helped Rebel with their ongoing grift where they inflate the danger their “I’m not a journalist but I play one on YouTube cohort” by sending them to places they are not welcome, them being ejected, and then claiming they need money to protect them. /10
They literally say in their piece that Caledonia might be the most dangerous place in Canada, so give them $$$. A place where women are cooking and children are playing, where potlucks are served and people are playing lacross on the clay. It’s a joyful rebellion site. /11
It is dangerous only when the OPP come. It is dangerous when a racist person flies a drone over them and posts about harm. It is dangerous when Menzies shows up with some twit in a MAGA hat who thinks he can square his need for attention with his enthusiasm for fence sitting. /12
And understand it has never been a dangerous place for all the folks who claim this danger. Bradbury left and was fine. Seemingly emotional, and broken up about not being hugged or something, and Menzies was fine. And the cops were fine. But the Land Defenders were not. /13
It is important that people who want to show support as allies, call these things out, repost these people’s names who are in denial about how their actions do risk the safety and well-being of the people at #1492landbacklane. Guys like Bradbury, must be held accountable. /x
