Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We in the aviation industry need your help, to help you get where you want to go after @realDonaldTrump gets re-elected! The following form provided by ALPA will help you send a plea on our behalf to your representatives.
Most of us in the aviation industry have devoted our entire lives to this crazy life. It’s been well worth it and I love going to work every trip. However the flying public just hasn’t returned even though masks work, right? Some “come on man!!”, fly!!!
I have been a certified pilot since 1989 and currently have over 15000 hours. ~6000 in an Airbus 320. I flew through 9/11 and I know we can fly through this.
I’m not alone in this ask, all my fellow 121 friends are as well: fellow pilots, flight attendants, gate agents, rampers, fuelers, maintenace, dispatchers, schedulers, planners, marketing...
Seems no one is flying, the few flights there are seem mostly full, we need and want you to fill these planes. Here’s a glimpse of what’s planned at some airlines starting October 1, 2020. This data is only pilots and in some cases flight attendants.
I don’t see much about the rest of the staff it takes to make a plane fly. We are looking for an extension to the payroll program versus going on the unemployment program. We really do love to fly and we need some help right now!
Very soon 380 to over 512k airline and related employees could be on unemployment. Projections...
No particular order, anticipated furlough October 1, 2020:
Delta - 2500 pilots
United - 2250 pilots, 36k job furlough
AA - 25k job furlough
Frontier - 504 pilots
PSA - 730 pilots, 500 FA’s
Piedmont - 120 pilots
Go Jet - all employees have been notified of a potential furlough
Republic - 1800 pilots
Southwest - looking for 30% early out, if travel doesn’t double looking at ~25k furlough, assuming in 2021
Spirit - 30% of its 9k workforce, 117 pilots announced on 8/20
Alaska Airlines - 7k and possibly up to 30% of the 23k remaining.
Express Jet - all employees will be released by end of year
Again, This is only the flight crew in most cases. This doesn’t include the ground personnel and everyone else it takes to make your trip as enjoyable as it can be. Yeah the seats suck in most planes now, but it sure beats driving.
Thank you for reading. This data is about a week old. I want to thank a couple of my friends, @AvaArmstrong and @JoeSilverman7 for getting this in front of lot of fellow conservatives quickly. Thank you for retweeting it as well.
