Firstly animals cats and dogs don’t have sex for fun. They do it because they are driven by strong sexual hormones which can put them in harms way. Like a male dog jumping a fence to get to a female in heat.

They don’t miss having sex or even know their ability to do so was taken away. Because it’s only there for procreation.
Reason 2:
Not only for safety reasons but also reducing the amount of animals in shelters or strays on the streets. You may think you are choosing the less cruel route by not sterilizing your pet but what happens to all the kittens and puppies?

After you give them away you have no way of knowing how they are being treated. In most cases you can’t find homes for them and they end up in shelters. Or you have to keep them and sooner or later you have a house full of stressed out animals.
