1/ Title: lies and making stuff up about #COVID

Early on, while some of us were advocating for #masks, the public was told that #masks don't work to protect the public and that they make people touch their faces more increasing the spread of #COVID19 https://twitter.com/maryfernando_/status/1296897074609491968

2/ Then we were told that #masks work but they wanted to tell us they don’t to save them for healthcare workers - this admission of lying during a #pandemic erodes public trust

3/ Luckily @VoiceOfFranky showed polling proving that people who wore #masks were NOT more at risk for poor behavior, risking a #COVID19 infection. Was this a lie or simply making stuff up? Certainly it wasn’t true and truth is what increases public trust in a #pandemic

4/As we move forward, to a vaccine or a second wave, public trust in physicians and public officers of health is crucial. Eroding it was wrong. Worse, I’m haunted - and I hope everyone is - by the people who might have been saved by the #masks they were told not to wear.

So please, please don’t lie and do call out lies when you hear them about #COVID19 And never, ever make stuff up. Lives depend on honesty and accuracy. We must all abide by the principle to DO NO HARM. Yes, this was a rant. I see it as making #GoodTrouble
