Camping is a long-standing tradition, and we recognize the role of campfires when enjoying B.C.’s great outdoors. The #BCWildfire Service takes the decision to implement a campfire ban very seriously, and the top priority is the overall safety of the public.
Given that B.C. is a large, geographically diverse province, each of our province’s six fire centres decides when and where to implement open burning prohibitions within its jurisdiction.
When deciding when to implement a campfire ban, a fire centre will assess a variety of factors, including:
* current & forecast wildfire activity/weather
* type & amount of available fuel
* moisture content of available fuel
* availability of firefighting resources
Escaped campfires can lead to human-caused wildfires, but that does not mean a campfire can’t be enjoyed safely and responsibly. For guidance on responsible fire use, visit: http://ow.ly/huHv30r4vvP
