As it is too windy to sleep as I am too worried about the campers, let’s have a calming thread..
This is Cartmel Fell Church. I first visited here in 1993 when my husband Antony was fell running. This is the only church in the North of England dedicated to St Antony

When I became a teacher at Cartmel School we researched the history of the church. It was a chapel of ease for Cartmel Priory to ease the travelling every Sunday for remote parishioners. It was also a school until the mid 19th century. The tables the children used are still here
There are box pews dating from 1504. The Cowmire Hall pew was made from the 1571 chancel screen. Children’s graffiti can be seen in the pews from when it was a school.
The 15th century glass was removed from Cartmel Priory to stop it from being destroyed. Cartmel Priory was not always as well kept as it is today. It lacked a roof for a long time, and the church was used as sheep pens when local sheep were gathered and sorted.
It’s not only me that likes visiting here. Princess Margaret used to knock on the key holders door and ask if she could sit for a while in the church
Goodnight.
