I truly detest 2020.
Now my beloved alma mater @ucsc has been evacuated, as one of the >300 fires in California caused by lightning strikes is roaring through the redwoods, just about 2 miles from the center of campus. It's 0% contained.

2/ UCSC students & personnel evacuated to the Boardwalk, in the foreground. The campus is in those hills, and this photo was taken several hours ago. There are actually 2 fires raging in the mountains at the same time.

3/These fires- - 100s of various sizes across California -- were sparked by unprecedented lightning storms amid extreme heat. These are #climatechange events: lightning like this has never before been seen in the region. Firefighters are stretched thin, frm San Diego to Solano.
4/ In addition to threatening @ucsc the wildfire is destroying surrounding redwood forests, some of the most magnificent ecology in the world.
I really hate 2020. Enough!

5/ This iconic photo is Ben Lomond, in the Santa Cruz Mtns near the @ucsc campus. Santa Cruz was already struggling with #COVID19 but now university evacuees and 100s of people whose homes are at risk have been evacuated to an amusement park by Monterey Bay.
